Focus on Edouard Buzon
Edouard Buzon's work is characterized by flat surfaces with an impeccable varnish finish. Fascinated by abstract painting, the self-taught artist has shaped his own tools throughout his career in order to achieve his plastic goal. Paying particular attention to color, he selects himslef the raw pigments that make his painting so intense. His works are then meticulously polished in his studio, before being protected from the slightest particle of dust.
If painting remains his first passion, Edouard Buzon has nevertheless not hesitated to invest photography. By making a sporadic use of it, he has created singular compositions where the spectator's eye is permanently solicited by many fragments of various images. In Buzon's alternative worlds, seaside resorts buildings get along with isolated animals, lost strollers and different varieties of exotic plants. These unexpected connections give his work a singular poetic force.

Focus on Patrick Lajoie
In Patrick Lajoie's universe, commonly recurring themes such as beaches and bathing scenes, vintage cars and surfing, are chosen as much for their reflection of the artist's personal interests as for their ability to channel collective memories and a spirit of adventure. Rather than being planned or staged, his images are primarily discovery-driven and rely on frequent travels in search of the elusive chance combination of the right subject matter, location, lighting, and compositional potential. In that sense, his artistic practice is in constant evolution.
In his latest series, Lajoie choses an American cultural symbol : cars. Cadillacs and other vintage vehicles are pictured in a sunny Californian landscape, devoid of any human presence. Like a newly colorized period film, his photographs taken in Palm Springs and Los Angeles remind us of the old Hollywood. On the other hand, the deserted luxury villas, reminiscent of movie sets, question the viewer about the American dream's artificiality.

French artist Edouard Buzon photographs architecture and landscapes and captures their timelessness. He adds large flat tints with a unique depth. Patrick Lajoie, a Canadian photographer, plunges us into a present that resembles the past, images that seem to have come straight out of a bygone era, but which are nevertheless very much alive. Both these artist's works are exhibited at the gallery until July 28, and will make you wonder where you are in time and space.
